I. Welcome and Introduction: Chapter President Eden Freeman welcomed attendees and reviewed the agenda. II. Minutes- Attendees approved minutes from the June meeting unanimously following a motion by Kelly Hopkins that David Bridges seconded. Secretary Kimberly Hays de Muga provided the revised version of the April annual for review. III. Other Reports: 1. State Representative David Bridges had no updates from the national office to report. 2. Treasurer’s Report, Vince Fulghum—balance of $1,522.30 as of June. 3. Ms. Freeman reported that former MAAGP Chapter President Amanda Day had a baby girl; all are healthy and doing well. IV. Chapter Use of Free Membership: Attendees review the draft of the copy that Ms. Hays de Muga prepared about the free membership offer. Ms. Freeman agreed to format the copy. Attendees agreed to set the deadline as September 5th at 5, with the entries going to Ms. Hays de Muga and Mr. Bridges. Review committee members are Ms. Freeman, Ms. Hays de Muga, Mr. Bridges, David Sterling and Cathy Brown V. Annual Conference Scholarship: Vice President Danny Blitch reported that AAGP was encouraging chapters to consider offering scholarships to the annual conference in November. Following a brief discussion, attendees agreed to table the MAAGP annual conference scholarship, and wait to see the results of the free membership drive—with the thought of adding a free annual membership sponsored by MAAGP if response is positive. VI. Grants Supermarket, Friday, August 7— Ms. Freeman asked for volunteers to staff the MAAGP table at the upcoming Federal Grants Workshop at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, GA. Ms. Brown and Treasurer Vince Fulghum could attend, and Mr. Bridges said he may be able to attend. VII. Open Discussion: 1. Ms. Hays de Muga asked if for information about a “Fidelity Certificate” requested for an upcoming proposal. While no attendees had specific information, several promised to look into it, and requested that Ms. Hays de Muga report back at the next meeting. 2. Several attendees had questions about $5 billion pool of federal stimulus funds slated for state’s innovation programs. Possible contacts for more information regarding future RFPS included the Governor’s Office for Student Achievement, and the website for the Governor’s Office for Planning and Budget, and the Governor’s lobbyist—although no one had specific contact information. 3. Edward Jonas opened discussion about paying local dues only versus national membership. He was concerned that the newer policies by AAGP requiring both memberships were not covered in the MAAGP by-laws. Mr. Bridges produced a copy of the by-laws for a cursory review, but there was no clear language around this issue. Attendees discussed possibilities of local only dues, but did not want to lose the national charter by doing so. Currently, national handles all finances. Attendees discussed having a local checking account as well, managed by the treasurer. No motions made. Ms. Freeman said she would ask about the local/national dues requirement in the next Chapter President conference call and would scan the hard copy of the by-laws to have a digital copy on hand for further review.
